Mallard Lodge Trip, May 2012, Symrna, DE

I learned at this trip that there are many horse shoe crabs in danger. They might look scary but they aren’t. We actually need them to prevent blood clots and feed the south american birds called the red knot. My experience there was awesome, and I hope to go next year with Urban Promise. - Pete, UP Academy

Going to Pinkerton Beach was a nice experience. My classmates and I got to save the horeshoe crabs on the beach. A lot of the horseshoe crabs were half dead and weak. It felt good to place the crabs back in the water for revival!!!!!! - Na’Adirah, UP Academy

What makes a hero?

There are many different things that make a hero. My definition of a hero is someone who does good things or deeds for others when no one is looking and because they want to. A perfect example of a modern day hero is the Urban Promise staff. Everyone who works at Urban Promise dedicates their lives to help youth in the community every day. They don’t do it for a large paycheck or reward; they do it because they care.
